BIO / John Damond

John Damond is a librarian in Baltimore. His interest in Anne Frank began in 1992, when he first visited Amsterdam and the Anne Frank House and became gripped by her story. He then proceeded to read everything about her that he could find and in 2010, started teaching about her to middle school students. By 2025, he has presented his Anne Frank program to more than 4,000 people in schools, libraries, synagogues, and senior centers in Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New York. John finds sharing Anne Frank’s story fulfilling as both an introduction to the Holocaust and as a cautionary tale about how prejudice and persecution can be taken to a dangerous extreme.

John has recently taught in-depth classes for adults for the Johns Hopkins Odyssey Program, Towson University’s Osher Program, and Princeton University’s Wintersession.

John has a Bachelor of Arts in English (with minors in history and philosophy) from the Catholic University of America, a Master’s in Library and Information Science from the University of Pittsburgh, and Master of Arts in Holocaust and Genocide Studies from Gratz College.
